What is the difference between European and Russian HS codes?
We always ask for HS code when processing the request and quoting.
The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS code) of the tariff nomenclature is an international standard system of names and numbers used for product classification. It is accepted and used by more than 200 countries worldwide.
However, sometimes, HS codes used in European Union may differ from the one used in the Customs Union. It is connected to the fact that first six digits of the product code correspond to the HS nomenclature, the seventh and eighth digits are the Combined Nomenclature of the European Community, and the ninth sign is HS code of the CIS. The tenth sign of the product code is intended for detailing the goods at the level of HS code of the Customs Union. Thus, the end of the HS code may differ.
We prefer not to give advice on HS code since HS code also influences customs fee to be paid at customs clearance. Thus, we usually recommend agreeing HS code with Russian customer or broker who will pass customs clearance.
