New marking requirement for shoes in Russia
In the next two years, the light industry destined for sale in Russia will be marked with QR and Data Matrix tags. It refers to leather shoes, outerwear, blouses, shirts, suits, bed and table linens.
This marking will contain all the information about the product: when, where and by whom it is produced, as well as data on fabric, color and batch. These tags are easily read by mobile devices. Thus, any customer may check the product. This will allow protecting the buyers from poor-quality counterfeiting.
The experimental marking began on June 1, 2018 and will last until the end of the year. The purpose of the experiment will be to check whether the marking could help combat the illegal importing, production and trafficking of footwear in Russia, and to increase customs and tax payments. The experiment will involve manufacturers and importers of shoes, as well as sellers, on a voluntary basis. According to the results of the experiment, the authorities will decide if it is reasonable to introduce mandatory marking of footwear in Russia.
According to the minister, outerwear, blouses, shirts, toilet water, perfume, cameras and wheel disk are the next products to be started marking. However some trademarks already mark their products on a voluntary basis.
