Difference between Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) and Russian Safety Passport
Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) should be developed for any type of chemical product that could somehow harm a person, property or the environment when it is used. Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) is a standard document applicable in different countries. The format varies depending on requirements in each specific country.
Russian Safety Passport for chemical products according to GOST standard 30333-2007 is developed and registered for the transportation and sales of chemical products within the territory of the Russian Federation. Safety Passport is a document applicable in Russia.
The list of products requiring Safety Passport is specified in GOST standard 30333-2007 “Safety passports for chemical products. General requirements".
Before Technical Regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union "On the safety of chemical products" (EAEU TR 041/2017) become effective on 02.06.2021, a safety passport for chemical products is elaborated on a voluntary basis. However, the safety passport for chemical products is already requested for air, rail and road transportation.
Also, during exports, some end customers include the safety passports of chemical products in the list of mandatory accompanying documents.
Thus, it is better to ask an end-customer in Russia whether they need this safety passport or not.
