Professional measuring instruments are subject to mandatory Type Approval.
That is a complex document that consists of two parts – a Certificate itself and Type Description.
The latter contains all technical and metrological data, a method of margin of error verification and test reports. Usual turnaround time is about 6 months.
If you are obtaining such document for the first time the cost of the whole procedure is higher as it is necessary to process a lot of information, conduct a variety of testing procedures and elaborate a method of verification.
However, if you already have a valid certificate it is possible to prolong its term of validity by submitting a set of required documents 40 days prior to its expiration date.
This allows to reduce costs – it costs twice cheaper than a primary certification; and save precious time – it takes only a couple of months to renew the certificate;
